The Moment Has Finally Arrived.
On Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 the new Salt Lake City International Airport officially opened to the public. For those of you who fly, you are now able to view Gordon’s iconic art installations in person on your next trip through Salt Lake City.
Gordon was there in person on September 15th to celebrate the first flight out of the new concourse, alongside city, airport, and Delta officials. The inaugural flight took off at 6 a.m. headed for Atlanta, the headquarters for Delta, and was accompanied by Delta cookies, a cake replica of the new terminal paired with a frosting airplane, and a water cannon salute send off.
Four of Gordon’s seven total art installations for the SLC Airport Redevelopment Program are now completed and installed: “The Falls”, “Column Plates” and “Benches”, and Gordon’s largest installation, “The Canyon”. All were inspired by the natural beauty of Utah and designed to draw that natural beauty indoors at the new airport.
You can read more about each of these installations on our SLC project pages here: https://gordonhuether.com/salt-lake-city-international-airport/
We hope you enjoy them!
