Project Update: The Salt Lake City Int’l Airport

Written on October 18, 2016

We are excited to share with you the latest progress on our Salt Lake City Int’l Airport project: The final designs for the ‘Column Plates’ and the terminal benches. The columns are structurally integrated and both the benches and columns function as seating as well as sculptural elements. For these very unique and innovative composite pieces, Gordon Huether Studio has partnered with Kreysler & Associates, who among other famous projects, recently finished the signature architectural features for the expansion to the San Francisco MoMA.

Located in a gathering area for both arriving and departing passengers, the sculptural column plates create a visual distinction for the various activities taking place in the open space. Inspired by the Utah landscape, just as The Canyon, the sculptural forms provide interest and induce a sense of wonder while maintaining visibility of the view corridor. Benches made of a similar composite material and inspired by the column plates will be placed through out the area.
