Saguaro Cactus Sculpture
Southside Public Safety Complex
Tucson, Arizona
Public Art Concept in Progress:
Gordon’s concept embraces the omnipresent plant in Arizona and Mexico, the
Saguaro Cactus. This plant has been a part of the landscape there for thousands
of years and is a timeless and iconic symbol of the area. And the flower of the
Saguaro is the State flower of Arizona. The Saguaro is a symbol of endurance
and the bond between nature and the culture of the Southwest.
We have three cactus plants made of concrete plinths, brushed stainless steel
and dichroic glass. We have three sculptures, one representing Fire, one Police
and one that represents the Community which is served by the safety complex.
There are three different heights, 16 ft, 18 ft and 20 ft. Dichroic glass is intensely
colorful and dynamic, the glass changes color dependent on the time of day and
angle of vision. The glass, the concrete and the stainless steel are all extremely
durable and will require little to no maintenance.
