Gordon recently met with Old Hickory’s residents to learn what makes this heartwarming Nashville district special and to connect with the community for an upcoming art project. Gordon will design, fabricate, and install an interior suspended permanent public artwork for the new Old Hickory Community Center, due to be completed in 2024.

Metro Arts, Nashville’s public arts agency, organized two community events on October 10th and 11th, providing a platform for Gordon to engage with locals. These gatherings allowed the people of Old Hickory to share their deep-rooted love for their community and unveil what truly makes it a unique and cherished place.

At the heart of the public art project is the idea that art should reflect the community it serves and create a sense of belonging and unity. Gordon’s approach involves drawing inspiration from Old Hickory’s history and stories, dating back to its origins as a community for World War I DuPont munitions plant workers.

Informed by engagement with the Old Hickory community, Gordon’s work will serve as a symbolic tribute to the neighborhood’s unique character, shaped by its deep connection with the people who call it home.
