Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA | Metal | 48’L x 3’H | 2013
The tree-lined streets of Chapel Hill and the town’s support of the University of North Carolina inspired Tar Heel Blues. Metal painted boxes create geometric forms that add depth and rhythm to the installation. The varying height creates shadows and when passing by the length of the mural, the tree branches come in and out of view. An elaborate image transferring process forms the tree branch pattern.
The mural is coated with multiple layers of clear, low-VOC paint, protecting the installation from the elements and creating a glossy finish. The abstract depictions of trees combined with geometric forms in Tar Heel Blue form a relevant and contemporary work of art that highlights the character of Chapel Hill and The University of North Carolina.
