Univeristy of Toledo | Toledo, OH | Aluminum, Dichroic Glass | 14’ H x 14’ W x 4’D | 2013

Overview

‘Portal’ is an elegant and visually compelling gateway installation integrated into the University of Toledo’s health science campus.

Commissioned by the Ohio Arts Council, the purpose of the artwork was to improve pedestrian space and create a beautiful and unifying centerpiece for their traffic roundabout.

Through its circular shape, ‘Portal’ invites viewers to reflect on the concepts of the interdependence of a community and encourages them to come together as a community through its all-inclusive portal.

The four rings of ‘Portal’ range in diameter from 11 feet to 14 feet and are made of aluminum and dichroic glass panels. The varied ring sizes create a sense of energy and movement, as well as provide a visual frame for the university architecture.
