Overview

Made of 1/4-inch Corten laser-cut steel, The Great Wall spans over 200 feet in length, beginning at two feet and rising to six feet in height. The Great Wall begins at the front of the building, stops at the main entrance and continues out the back, drawing viewers towards an estuary. The laser-cut design on the wall’s surface was inspired by microscopic photographs of bio-organisms taken in BioMarin’s laboratory.

The steel wall was additionally treated with a hot patina application, leaving random organic patterns on the wall’s surface. The cellular shapes enliven the surface of the sculpture while adding a layer of content with a direct connection to the mission of the company.
