Potomac Metrorail Yard - Proposed Project | Alexandria, VA | Structural Frames: powder-coated aluminum tubing
Gordon incorporated biophilic elements into this project by drawing inspiration from the Potomac River. This concept aims to evoke a sense of movement and tranquility reminiscent of flowing water and the rippled textures formed in sand by its currents.
The ever-changing ripples of the Potomac River ensure that each encounter with it is unique, offering a fresh experience every time. Drawing from this idea, the design for the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station revolves around aluminum tubes that undulate, providing a subtly dynamic experience and revealing new perspectives from every angle.
The proposed structure consists of aluminum frames supporting a configuration of lightweight aluminum tubes, each individually shaped using a state-of-the-art tube bending machine. These tubes will be custom-bent and installed in a sequenced pattern to mimic the waves and ripples found on the surface of water.
