SLC's DA’s Office Unveils Gordon's Glass Art Installation
On September 27, 2017 the Salt Lake County Downtown District Attorney’s Office unveiled Gordon's glass art installation. The new DA's office building is located in downtown Salt Lake City at 35 East 500 South Main Street. This $65.4 million project features “Words We Live By”, Gordon Huether’s large-scale architectural glass art installation on the building’s façade.
“Words We Live By” creates a strong identity for the Salt Lake County Downtown District Attorney’s Office and reflects the District Attorney’s progressive, collaborative and community oriented approach. The artist worked closely with all stakeholders to arrive at a final design that is beautiful, elegant and distinctive while embodying the DA’s mission and goals.
Gordon approached the District Attorney’s Office Building’s glass façade as a “canvas,” integrating the artwork directly into the different architectural elements of the building. Visible from both the exterior and interior of the building, Huether’s installation considers the function of the building’s interior spaces, creating a beautiful effect of patterned and colored light in office workspaces.
Gordon Huether was selected through an open public art call, competing with three other artists in the finalist round. The project architect for the building is the local firm MHTN Architects.
