Tucson Southside Public Safety Complex Project Kicks-Off with Community Outreach

Tucson Southside Public Safety Complex

The art design process for Tucson’s new Southside Public Safety Complex is officially underway. The project kicked off with a community feedback session on Tuesday December 10, 2024 with Tucson Police and Fire personnel and city residents, gathering input that will shape the theme and   direction of the facility’s public art installation. Gordon was selected as the project artist for the complex in 2023, following an international request-for-qualifications process seeking artists with experience in creating holistic environments to design an iconic and innovative artwork to enhance the new facility.

Gordon’s approach to this project will enhance the facility’s public space with a design that reflects honorably on the work of police and fire services. This state-of-the-art facility will house both the Tucson Fire Department and Tucson Police Department under one roof, creating faster response times and even stronger collaboration. The long-awaited complex, funded through the city’s Tucson Delivers sales tax, broke ground in September of this year, with completion expected in 2026. Once completed, the artwork will be the centerpiece of an Art Plaza, located in the southeast corner of the complex, adjacent to the community basketball court.
